“Sharon not only taught me how to compete in pageants, but how to understand them and learn to know myself better in the process. She is one of the few people who strongly believe in using pageantry as a means of improving one’s character and growing as an individual to the fullest potential. I can genuinely say that I would not be the person I am today without Sharon’s help. She showed me how to grow as a person and for that I will forever be grateful.”
Background
I have been associated with pageants for over 25 years. My first experience was with a high school student who wanted me to help her prepare for a Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant Preliminary in the Miss America Pageant System. We were both “rookies” and learned a great deal from that experience. She didn’t place in that preliminary, but did go on to win 4 major preliminary titles, and pay her way through college.
I became affiliated with the Miss Western Plains local preliminary eventually becoming its director. I am a certified judge in the Miss Oklahoma Scholarship Pageant System and do attend the judging clinic every year. However, I no longer judge in any pageant system because of the conflict of interest.
I began working privately as a pageant consultant in 2000 shortly after I gave up directing Miss Western Plains. Jana Quattlebaum at Southern Charm in Norman, Oklahoma offered me a position as pageant consultant and I began working there in July 2001. This position introduced me to the Miss Oklahoma USA and Oklahoma Teen USA Pageants and I am now a member of the Preparation Committee for these pageants.
